About Atlanta Psychological Associates

Atlanta Psychological Associates (APA) is a multidisciplinary behavioral health practice founded in 1978 by Dr. Nick A. DeFilippis, Ph.D. For more than four decades, APA has provided comprehensive psychological and neuropsychological services to individuals, families, healthcare systems, legal professionals, and organizations throughout the Atlanta area and nationally.

Our practice is distinguished by doctoral-level clinicians with advanced board certification, extensive clinical experience, and active involvement in academic training and research. We specialize in psychological and neuropsychological assessment, forensic consultation, and clinical evaluation for children, adolescents, and adults.


Leadership

Nick A. DeFilippis, Ph.D., ABN, ABPP

Board-Certified Clinical Neuropsychologist

Director & Founder

Dr. DeFilippis has been in private practice since 1978. He received his professional training at the University of Iowa, Augusta University and the University of South Florida and is board certified in both Clinical Psychology and Clinical Neuropsychology.

Throughout his career, Dr. DeFilippis has published and presented internationally in the areas of clinical psychology and neuropsychology. He has held multiple academic appointments and previously served as a Professor in an APA-accredited clinical psychology doctoral training program, where he coordinated the neuropsychology training concentration.

His clinical focus includes comprehensive psychological and neuropsychological assessments, brain injury evaluation, and forensic consultation for both children and adults.

Dr. DeFilippis is licensed to practice psychology in Georgia and Vermont. In addition to in-person services, he provides secure telehealth services to patients in states where he is authorized to practice in accordance with applicable licensure regulations.

Clinical Team Associates

Thomas Burns, PsyD, ABPP

Dr. Burns is board certified in Clinical, Adult and Pediatric Neuropsychology and has extensive experience in Adult and Pediatric Neuropsychological treatment and evaluations. He previously served as Chief of Neuropsychology at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and has conducted clinical and forensic evaluations for adults, adolescents, and children.

Dr. Burns has consulted nationally and internationally and performs evaluations for professional concussion programs, including the NFL concussion protocol.

Jonathan Dodd, PsyD, ABPP

Dr. Dodd is a board-certified neuropsychologist specializing in adult and adolescent clinical and neuropsychological evaluation. He conducts evaluations on referral from healthcare providers, legal professionals, and organizations.

He has consulted on numerous forensic cases and is certified to conduct NFL concussion evaluations.
